Philippians 4:4
Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice.

Good thought! Be thankful for everything and have joy knowing Jesus paid the price for our sins!

Philippians 4:8
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.

If you think there’s a possibility a thought or action is bad, it probably is. This verse is a challenge to fill your mind only with true, honorable and pure things. Input = output. No matter how much you try to fight it, it will eventually take over. Set your mind on God, and goodness will naturally happen.

1 Corinthians 15:58
Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.

This verse combines two important aspects. First, Christians are called to be “immovable”, meaning we must not let the world shape who we are, but help shape the world. Second, when God calls you to do something, even if it doesn’t seem important, it is. This promise, “in the Lord your labor is not in vain”, shows that if you are being faithful to God and doing what He asks, your work is very valuable even if it doesn’t seem to be.

1 Corinthians 4:20
For the kingdom of God does not consist in talk but in power.

This is a great reminder that although we don’t receive eternal life with God through good deeds, it is an example and powerful part of our faith. We can’t just talk the talk, we need to walk the walk and that comes by being selfless like Jesus.

Psalm 118:24
This is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.

Even when things don’t go the way we planned, we still need to “rejoice” and “be glad”. God made this day and He gave it to us so we could enjoy life. I don’t know about you, but I’m pretty glad I woke up this morning and got to experience God in unexpected ways. Everything God makes is good so why not be happy?

2 Timothy 1:7
For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.

We need to embrace the power God bestowed upon us. We are so blessed to be able to speak with our God and ask for guidance. He took away our reason to fear because He is our HOPE. This leaves us with power to use responsible and to further His kingdom, love to share with others to show them Christ, and self-control to keep ourselves from sinning, at least trying, which pulls us away from God.

James 1:17
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.

This is a great reminder to thank God for every little thing. Even if it seems pointless or so insignificant to be from God, it still is. He loves to see us happy even though we don’t deserve it. So remember this verse and thank Him!

Romans 8:6
For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace.

Focusing on worldly desires is in vain and pointless when it comes to the gift that God has given us. He provides comfort, joy and love. When we truly seek Him, we don’t need anything else to survive. We have the joy and peace and life of the Spirit.

Colossians 3:17
And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

I think this verse just lays out how to live as a true follower of Christ. Everything you do, do it for the glory of the Lord. He will be so glad when we put Him first in everything by loving and telling others about His love.
